Yachts

A Page where I will put up information on yachs, yacht engineering, pictures, and various other special, and not so special thing about yachts.
First piece of advice, in a world full of technology, it is useful to beable to phone home, so a good mobile phone with 3G support and wireless is very usefull
I have a Nokia E66, although the battery life is shocking, it does the trick.

I have installed Skype, Fring, and truphone. These three keep me connected to the world cheaply. truphone doesn't eat up battery life like skype, and you can quite often get a better quality call than skype on a bad signal. Just not all my friends use it so I pay a couple cents to phone home land lines.

Fring used to have skype enabled, but the two companys had a fall out, and now skype has their own application.

Yachting

It is a great way to earn some cash, travel the world and meet great people. Some of my best mates come from the time I have spent on boats, they come from all over the world. Not to mention the one or two famous faces you come across during your work.

There are a few ways into the yachting industry, as a deckhand, as an engineer, as a chef, or as a stewy in no particular order. the easiest way without any qualifications is through the stewy or deckhand route.
But of course without aSTCW95, which is a firefightig, 1st aid, safty at sea, 5 day course you probably wont get hired. the cheapest way to do this is in cape town at the Acadamy of Maritime Medicine. But this is no longer the bear nececities for deckhands. Captains are expecting guys to get their offshore officers of the watch ticket as well. In seamans terms a ticket is a certification.
